Bloody Mary

I'm a pretty big fan of Bloody Marys - especially for brunch with some close friends. Lately I've also been a fan of staying in and taking it easy in the mornings as brunch in New York sometimes involve a very long wait. Luckily, I can still make amazingly delicious Bloody Marys at home using Nicole Franzen's recipe of La Buena Vida (via Cup of Jo). I tried it and loved it so much that I decided to illustrate it. I'm planning on doing a series of cut paper recipes so there'll be even more delicious recipes to come!

Happy (Korean) New Year

Not only is it Chinese New Year, it is also Korean New Year. Today I scrubbed every inch of my apartment to start the year fresh and clean and it feels so good to finally check it off my list. It's the year of the snake so accordingly, I illustrated a 2013 snake.

Picture & Word

I absolutely love Susanne Lamb's illustrations and not just because she is my friend. They are so weird and funny and witty and perfect. Just try not to smile while looking at her awkward drawings or reading her silly and honest quotes. Her sketchbooks are also the best. Did I mention how much I like her work?

Hi, My Name Is

I've been wanting to update my blog header for awhile now and since it's been so cold outside (below 20 degrees!), I figured why not now? As I was working, I decided to turn it into a fun little gif.

Write it on your heart

There are some days when I don't want to wake up and go to work. There are days when all I want to do is absolutely nothing but I remind myself to treat every day as the best day. Maybe its my Buddhist background but I truly believe that whatever energy you exude, you reap back, whether its positive or negative.

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.

Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.

Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi is an incredible woman and someone I greatly admire. She is a symbol of hope to the people of Burma and a champion of democracy. After 15 years of house arrest, she still continues to fight against the militant regime tirelessly for a free Burma. Aung San Suu Kyi was recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize, Europe's Sakharov Prize and the United States Medal of Freedom for her life work.

"Even one voice can be heard loudly all over the world in this day and age." - Aung San Suu Kyi

Book of Flowers

The perfect weekend for me is reading a good book in bed while the sun is shining through my window. Other activities I did this weekend was meeting with Susanne Lamb and Jose Suris, eating delicious tacos, and watching the Lorax for the very first time.
