Central Park

Parks are funny things. The purpose of parks is to enjoy nature but in a very convenient and well manicured way. The grass is always cut, there are sidewalks to walk on if you're wearing nice shoes, and there are benches to sit on. It's a very pleasant way to enjoy nature in a "please, don't get me dirty with dirt" way. That's probably why I enjoy going to parks.

I especially love going to Central Park. Although it is a bit of a trek from Brooklyn, Central Park is incredibly beautiful and incredibly huuuuge. This cut paper piece is a map of all my favorite places including the Carousel, the statue of Balto, the Conservatory Water where Stuart Little raced his boat and the Waterfall in the Loch

Atmospheric Pressure - Williamsburg Art & Historical Center

I'm excited to say that my 'Great Leader' piece will be in the 'Atmospheric Pressure' group show at the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center along with the work of some really talented artists. If you're in the area, April 12th is the opening reception and I hope to see you there!

Central Park

Here's a quick pencil sketch of something I've been working on.

And here's the much bigger cut paper version. I found this paper at a Brooklyn art supply store and it seriously cuts like buttah. The color is also amazing in person. This photo just doesn't do it justice. P.S. Can you spot Balto?

Cards

I know it's March and not even remotely close to a card giving holiday but here are some that I received from my wonderfully talented friends.

Laura Korzon, who works for Moxie House, sent these little goodies to me! You know that feeling when an object just feels so perfect? It has the right weight, the right texture and thickness. Well, these cards are just that.

These hilarious personalized cards are from my friend, Susanne Lamb.
The first card is of Shahrukh Khan, a Bollywood star, from a scene in Om Shanti Om

The second card was for my boyfriend but I thought it was absolutely hilarious and perfect so I wanted to post it. On the front is Santa Claus ... or so you think ... until you open it! Inside is a portrait of Patrick Steward as Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek! Its perfect for that sci-fi fan (nerd) inside everyone. :)

Bloody Mary

I'm a pretty big fan of Bloody Marys - especially for brunch with some close friends. Lately I've also been a fan of staying in and taking it easy in the mornings as brunch in New York sometimes involve a very long wait. Luckily, I can still make amazingly delicious Bloody Marys at home using Nicole Franzen's recipe of La Buena Vida (via Cup of Jo). I tried it and loved it so much that I decided to illustrate it. I'm planning on doing a series of cut paper recipes so there'll be even more delicious recipes to come!

Happy (Korean) New Year

Not only is it Chinese New Year, it is also Korean New Year. Today I scrubbed every inch of my apartment to start the year fresh and clean and it feels so good to finally check it off my list. It's the year of the snake so accordingly, I illustrated a 2013 snake.
